Newly Released Court Documents Shed Light on Fatal Shooting in Northwest Austin

In the aftermath of a deadly shooting incident in northwest Austin, recent court filings have unveiled fresh details regarding the tragic event.

As per an affidavit, 49-year-old Stephen Mark Peterman was purportedly allowing his dog outside just moments before the shooting occurred on Amarillo Avenue. from USA Today

Law enforcement officers discovered Peterman lying on the road with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. Despite immediate attempts to resuscitate him, Peterman succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

According to statements of KVUE, the affidavit, Peterman’s wife disclosed that her husband often took their dog out early in the morning. On the day of the incident, she was awoken by a series of gunshots outside their residence. In total, six shots were fired. Peterman’s body was found near his white work truck.

A peace officer from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office surmised that Peterman likely witnessed the suspect attempting to break into his vehicle, which culminated in the shooting.

Per the affidavit, law enforcement officials identified the suspect as 36-year-old William Jewel Daniels from San Antonio. Daniels’ vehicle was reportedly captured on a neighbor’s security camera. Subsequently, detectives utilized license plate readers to track down Daniels’ vehicle, which was located approximately two miles away from the scene of the shooting. According to Fox7

Daniels was subsequently apprehended and charged with Peterman’s murder. He is currently held at Travis County Jail on a $1 million bond.
