Trump Discusses Potential VP Picks, Considers Convention Reveal

Former President Donald Trump appeared on “Fox & Friends” Wednesday to share his thoughts on selecting a new vice presidential running mate. The three frontrunners are believed to be Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH), and Governor Doug Burgum (R-ND), though each comes with potential challenges, According to Raw Story.

Trump addressed the primary obstacle for Rubio: the 12th Amendment, which prohibits electors from voting for both a president and vice president from the same state. While Trump could theoretically bypass this by moving his residency back to New York, he acknowledged the complication, saying, “It does make it more complicated. There are people that don’t have that complication.”

Burgum, who competed against Trump in the 2024 primary, raised concerns for Trump due to the near-total abortion ban he signed in North Dakota. Despite appointing the Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade, Trump has recently advocated for states’ rights to decide on abortion laws and has suggested that some post-Roe bans might be too restrictive. “It’s a little bit of an issue,” Trump commented. report from Fox News.

Regarding Vance, Trump had minimal criticism, dismissing a recent report that he disliked Vance’s facial hair and instead praising him for his resemblance to “a young Abraham Lincoln.”

Trump also hinted at the possibility of delaying the announcement of his running mate until the convention, which starts next week. “I’d love to do it during the convention,” he said. “In the old days, they did it during the convention, and it kept the convention very exciting, actually. So we’ll see about that.”
