A self-described “hardcore MAGA guy” expressed deep frustration with President Donald Trump after the recent escalation in the Iran conflict, saying he feels betrayed by the man he once strongly supported.
Calling into C-SPAN’s Washington Journal on Sunday, a Republican voter named John voiced his dismay after Trump ordered a military strike on Iran, a move that has sparked growing backlash among even his most loyal supporters.
“I woke up this morning on my X account, and there’s a short clip of Trump just ripping into Bush on the presidential debates, and, you know, complaining about how the country was lied to about the weapons of mass destruction,” John said.
“Well, you know, I mean, I feel the same thing has just happened again to us.” He didn’t hold back in sharing his disappointment. “I am so disappointed in Trump,” he said. “And I am a hardcore MAGA guy.
And I had so much support for this guy. And I just feel betrayed about this. Trump has done the wrong thing.” John went on to claim that the U.S. military had targeted the wrong enemy.
“We’ve literally bombed the wrong country. Israel has been doing things over there that are just outrageous, un-American, slaughtering tens of thousands of people, attacking this Pearl Harbor-like attack on Iran.”
He accused Trump of falling for pro-war narratives. “Trump has bought into Israel’s propaganda machine. We’ve gotten sucked in to yet another war,” he said. “And it’s just, I am so disappointed in this guy.”
The caller had hoped Trump would chart a more diplomatic course. “I was certainly hoping for him to be a real peacemaker out there, be a senior diplomat, and bring all the parties together and promote peace in that region,” he explained.
“He’s done the wrong thing, and I am disappointed.” John’s remarks highlight growing fractures within Trump’s base, particularly among supporters who saw him as a non-interventionist candidate.
As military tensions in the Middle East rise, some conservatives are beginning to question whether the president has strayed from the anti-war promises that helped define his earlier campaigns.
