President Biden plans Michigan trip next week

White House officials said the president will visit the state to discuss how his administration’s “Investing in America” agenda has impacted Michigan.

According to the White House website, the initiative is focused on creating jobs and rebuilding the manufacturing industry in the United States.

A fact sheet on the website states Biden “has helped create over 421,300 new jobs in Michigan and unleashed nearly $28.5 billion in private sector investment in the state” as of June.

The White House statement did not provide details about where in Michigan Biden will visit.

He last landed in the state July 12, more than one week after a debate performance that led many Democrats to call on the president to abandon his 2024 reelection campaign but days before Biden decided to exit the race.

Back then, Biden hosted one of his campaign’s last rallies at a Detroit-based Renaissance High School, where supporters chanted, “Don’t you quit.”

His planned visit next week is scheduled five days after his vice president, Kamala Harris, plans to visit Detroit on Labor Day as part of the presidential campaign she launched after Biden ended his.

Michigan — considered a swing state critical to the presidential election — this summer has developed into a frequent destination for current presidents, former presidents and prospective presidents.

Harris previously campaigned in the state from Aug. 7-8, when she hosted a rally at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and then met with United Auto Workers members the following day.

Former President Donald Trump — the Republican nominee in the 2024 race to the White House — campaigned in the state three times in the last two weeks and six times total this year.
