Defendant Joins Virtual Hearing for Suspended License

In a virtual court hearing in Washtenaw County, Michigan, earlier this month, a defendant accused of driving with a suspended license appeared on Zoom while driving, much to the judge’s astonishment. from CNN

The defendant, Corey Harris, joined the hearing from behind the wheel, even mentioning that he was arriving at his doctor’s office.

“Your Honor, we’re respectfully requesting an adjournment in this matter, possibly three to four weeks if the court will allow,” said Harris’ attorney during the hearing.

Judge Cedric Simpson, visibly surprised, responded, “OK, so maybe I don’t understand something. This is a driving while license is suspended?” According to CBS

“That is correct, your Honor,” the attorney confirmed.

Judge Simpson then revoked Harris’ bond and ordered him to surrender by 6 p.m.

“Oh my God,” Harris exclaimed as the hearing concluded.

Court records indicate Harris was initially charged with driving with a suspended license in October of the previous year.
